Wireless Security

This section will show you the dierent levels of security you can use to protect your network from unauthorized access. The

D-Link DIR-610N oers the following types of security:

• Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP)

• Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA/WPA2) - Personal

• Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA/WPA2) - Enterprise

What is WEP?

Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) is an older form of wireless encryption which operates only in 802.11g legacy mode. WEP uses

hex digits to create an authentication key, and is considered to be less secure than the newer WPA/WPA2 security standards.

It is recommended that you only use this security mode if your wireless clients do not support WPA/WPA2.

What is WPA?

WPA, or Wi-Fi Protected Access, is a Wi-Fi security standard that was designed to improve the security features of WEP (Wired

Equivalent Privacy).
